2nd Annual Baby Blanket Drive

Abby’s Gift will be hosting the 2nd Annual Baby Blanket Drive on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 10 AM to 2 PM at CyFair Christian Church.

The blanket ministry began October 2010 at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. Since that first donation, Abby’s Gift has gathered and donated 2,397 blankets as of August 30, 2012.  Our partners have expanded as well. Abby’s Gift now supports Methodist Willowbrook NICU, Houston Hospice Butterfly  Program, and Texas Children’s Hospital/Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. We hope you can donate to this simple yet powerful cause.      Go Abby!

Click the link below and read the amazing story of how this blanket ministry came full circle – from our donation to the NICU, the NICU passing it on to a sick baby and his family, the mother taking the blanket home each night to feel close to her baby because he was  in the NICU for many months, me seeing a family at church crying and holding a picture of a baby, me approaching the family and praying with them, meeting the mother for lunch…and then she mentions “a special blanket”. Wow!

Abby was born on September 23 with a diagnosis of Trisomy 18. When Abby was in the NICU, the nurses placed a beautiful quilted blanket on her isolette. The purpose of this blanket was not for warmth, but a simple gesture of love. Abby left the NICU to come home on hospice care and lived for 12 precious days. As a way to give back to other sweet little sick babies and their families and as a keepsake for those families that lose their child, we started a blanket ministry. You wouldn’t think such a small gesture could make such a large impact, but it does. It did to us.

If you, or anyone you know have lost a child, we invite you to join us for our balloon release honoring your sweet loved one and invite others to help us in this opportunity to love, support, and share the gift of HOPE…one blanket at a time.
Thank you… with all the love a heart can hold.

Baby Abby Blanket Ministry (Ongoing)

1 Corinthians 4:2 “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”

Our first blanket delivery was late October 2010, the same month Abby died. Since then, we have been honored and blessed, through the generous hearts of so many others, to gather and deliver 215 blankets (as of April 2011) to the NICU.

Today, six months later, we jump at the chance to tell the story of God’s amazing power to show us an Abby Blanket coming full circle. The story is in the March 23 post titled: God’s Grace…through the simplicity of a blanket. I encourage you to take a few minutes and read it…guaranteed to warm your heart and serve as a tender reminder of the goodness and faithfulness of Christ.

Abby’s legacy continues and even though her feet were tiny, she sure left us big shoes to fill. We look forward to seeing where God leads…

820 blankets (as of April 15, 2012)
